Your Guide to Yoni Eggs
WHAT IS A YONI?
Yoni is a Sanskrit word, which is often used to describe the female sexual organs including the vagina and vulva, and occasionally the uterus.
It is a word that stems from ancient Hinduism and represents the goddess Shakti (divine feminine energy).
WHY NOT JUST CALL IT A VAGINA?
What you call your lady parts is totally up to you! But for many people, Yoni is a word that helps to represent the sacredness of the female body much better than using Western medical terms.
WHAT IS A YONI EGG?
A yoni egg is a small smooth egg shaped stone or crystal, which is inserted into the yoni and worn for several holistic benefits.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING A YONI EGG?
Strengthens vaginal muscles
Prevents and improves urinary incontinence
Enhances sexual pleasure
Intensifies orgasms
Reduces menstrual cramps
Promotes healing after childbirth
Balances female hormones
Helps to heal negative womb energy from trauma
Stimulates healthy vaginal lubrication
Gives metaphysical properties of crystal used
Helps to develop a more sacred connection with your yoni
HOW DOES A YONI EGG WORK?
If you’re a skeptic, you’re probably thinking that all these benefits from a little egg sound too good to be true… but how yoni eggs work is really very simple.
PHYSICAL BODY
On a physical level, the object inserted into your vagina causes the muscles to grip around it to hold it in place.
When yoni egg exercises are incorporated, we increase blood flow and circulation in this area. This helps to wake up and create more nerve endings. The result is increased sensation and an all round healthier and stronger yoni!
Think of a yoni egg like a much cleaner and more natural alternative to ben-wa balls!
SPIRITUAL BODY
On a spiritual level, the practice of connecting to our sacred womb space is an act of self care and allows us to connect to our bodies on a more intimate level.
Many of us are out of touch with our sacred feminine energy - practices that encourage us to connect with our yonis allow us to tune into this powerful energy and intensify our chi (life force energy).
Not only this, but we can receive the healing energies from the crystals we choose and use particular stones to target certain aspects of ourselves that need work!
CHOOSING THE RIGHT YONI EGG FOR YOU
Choosing a yoni egg is a sacred process in itself, but it needn’t be daunting. To take the pressure off, here are some answers to some common questions that you might have about choosing your yoni egg!
Three Sizes with Massager
Yoni eggs typically come in three sizes - small (25x35mm), medium (30x43mm) and large (35x50mm).
Despite what you might assume, the size you use has little to do with the size of your vagina and more to do with the strength of your vaginal muscles.
Although you might be tempted to start with a smaller egg because it is less daunting, it is actually more beneficial for beginners to start with a larger egg and work their way down sizes in time.
This is because larger eggs are easier for the vaginal muscles to grip on to. Smaller eggs are better suited to advanced practitioners with more muscle dexterity.
If you’re unsure of which size to start out with a medium sized egg, unless you are aware of having a particularly weak pelvic floor.
If you’re a complete beginner or have previously given birth, it might be an option for you to purchase all three sizes so you can get to know your body and adjust the egg you use over time.
It is also important to note that not every crystal should be inserted into your yoni. Crystals have different levels of hardiness and more porous stones are not safe for wearing inside the vagina.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DRILLED AND UNDRILLED YONI EGG?
A drilled egg has a small hole drilled through the tip of the egg. This is to allow for string to be threaded through in order to easily retrieve the egg from the yoni.
Many beginners wish to use a drilled egg at first in order to feel assured that there will be no difficulty in removal.
However, undrilled eggs are completely safe and easily removed. You may wish to move on to an undrilled egg once you get more comfortable with your yoni.
Will a Drilled Egg Affect the Energy of the Crystal?
The short answer is no.
Although it is understandable why someone might consider this, a small hole in the crystal will not affect its metaphysical properties in any way! It is simply a matter of preference over the removal process.
HOW TO USE A YONI EGG
Using a yoni egg doesn’t have to be a difficult feat. The following section may clear up any uncertainties you have about using your egg!
HOW DO I CLEAN MY YONI EGG?
Before you use your yoni egg it is important that you clean itYour yoni is a delicate area and your new egg is likely to have touched many hands before making its way to you. The last thing you want to be putting in or near your yoni is something unclean!
To clean your yoni egg thoroughly, simply wash it with warm water and organic, unscented soap for sensitive skin.
Then bring a pot of water to the boil and allow it to cool enough that it would not burn your skin if you put your finger in it. Once at this temperature, place your yoni egg in the water and allow to soak for about 15 minutes.
You may choose to add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to the water to kill bacteria further. This method should be used before first use or for more thorough cleaning e.g. if you drop your egg into the toilet or begin your menstrual cycle.
It is important that you do not place your egg into boiling water as it may cause the egg to crack.
Before and after each use you should wash your egg with soap and warm water.
If you have a drilled egg, you should take steps to ensure that the hole is clean and free of any fluid after use. You can do this by running water through the passage and blowing through the hole. Easy!
Clearing/Charging Your Yoni Egg
This step is optional but many women may wish to clear their yoni eggs of any negative energy and charge them like you would other crystals.
This can be done by placing the egg in a bowl of water and sea salt. The bowl can then be left outside to soak up the energy from the sun or light of the full moon.
You may also wish to smudge your yoni egg with sage or palo santo!
HOW TO INSERT A YONI EGG
How you insert your yoni egg is a practice that will be sacred to you as an individual. However, you can use these tips to begin your practice and get a feel for the process!
Sacred Space
Before inserting your yoni egg, it may help to set up a sacred space and intention so that you can relax and be fully present in the moment.
Take whatever steps you need to make sure your space is is sacred to you. This might mean lighting some candles , dimming the lights or playing some soothing music. This will be different for everybody.
It is also up to you if you choose to be nude or wear loose comfortable clothing such as a skirt or a dress.
Lubricant
Lubrication helps to soften the yoni tissues and makes it easier for the egg to slide in without discomfort.
La Vie En Rose Essential Woman’s Essential Womens Balm of course!!!! If not Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil This is because it is completely natural and has antibacterial and antifungal properties, which helps to keep our delicated vaginal microbiome in balance.
Warming Up
It is important that you are in a state of relaxation before inserting your egg. In the sacred space you have created, lay down in a position that is comfortable for you.
To warm up the body for inserting the yoni egg, you might give yourself a sensual massage as an act of self love, tuning into the sensations you feel in your body. Many women will massage their breasts and/or yoni gently in order to arouse sexual energy.
You can also warm up your egg by holding it and rubbing it between your hands.
Inserting the Egg
When you feel ready to insert your egg, gently use the larger end to massage your yoni until you feel an opening sensation.
Then keeping the egg at the entrance of your yoni, move in a way that feels good for you and allow your yoni to accept the egg.
It is important that you don’t force the egg inside - we are working with the energy of our yonis to accept the egg in a way that feels good!
The egg does not need to be pushed all the way up to the cervix like a tampon. Instead, once the egg is past the yoni entrance, remove contact with your hands and allow your yoni to bring it to a place that is comfortable, similar to a menstrual cup.
WEARING YOUR YONI EGG
It is up to you what you choose to do once you are wearing your yoni egg. You may choose to simply go about your daily activities.
However, if you are a beginner you may find that it is difficult to keep the egg inside the yoni while standing or moving. Therefore you might prefer to remain sitting or lying down until you become stronger in your practice.
Here are some great options of ways to use your time while wearing your yoni egg and honour your yoni practice.
MEDITATION
Meditation is a simple yet powerful way to connect with your yoni practice.
Close your eyes and place your hands around your yoni area. Meditate on this area, focusing on any sensations that come up for you. You may choose to incorporate sacral chakra affirmations to work on unblocking any energy within this area.
EXERCISES TO DO WITH A YONI EGG
If you get to a stage in your practice where you feel comfortable wearing your egg and ready to incorporate some movement, these exercises are great options to try!
Kegal Exercises
Kegal exercises are the most common exercises women do while wearing a yoni egg. These exercises are intended to cause your yoni muscles to clench around the egg, in time strengthening them and activating nerve endings.
Kegal exercises are performed by contracting the muscles for a short time followed by releasing and relaxing. Many practitioners recommend 10 seconds of contraction followed by 10 seconds of relaxation. If you’re unsure of how to contract your yoni muscles, try to imagine yourself holding in your urine mid flow. This action will help you to engage the yoni muscles.
If you struggle at first this is okay. Over time, with the help of your egg, your yoni muscles will strengthen and these exercises will become easier.
Squats
Start in a standing position with your feet slightly wider than hip width distance apart. Slowly bend your knees as if you were sitting on a chair, taking care not to let your knees come forward past your toes (you should be able to see your toes).
Once your thighs are parallel to the floor, engage the glute muscles and ground down through the heels to push yourself up back to standing.
Bridge
Lie on your back, bend your knees and place your feet hip width distance apart at a 90 degree angle. Ground down through your feet and raise your hips up in the air while engaging your pelvic floor muscles. Hold this position before gently lowering down.
HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE A YONI EGG IN?
To begin your yoni egg practice, it is important to start off slow. It is a good idea to only leave your egg in for 15-30 minutes to get a feel for it and see how your yoni responds.
Over time you can increase how long you wear your egg for, but remember to honour your yoni if she seems tired and wants rest.
SLEEPING WITH A YONI EGG
Many experienced practitioners choose to sleep with their egg inside them. It is worth noting that although this seems like relaxing way to connect with your yoni, sleeping with a yoni egg can bring emotions stored in your yoni to the surface and create vivid dreams and mood swings.
This is not necessarily a bad thing and can be a great way to work with your subconscious. Just make sure you are prepared for it!
IS CRAMPING NORMAL?
It is normal to experience cramping after using your yoni egg, since your yoni muscles have had a workout and perhaps engaged in ways they are not used to.
It is important to honour your yoni with rest and not engage in any further exercises or sexual activity until any cramping subsides.
However, sharp intense pain could be a sign of a physical condition and should not be ignored. If you experience this level of discomfort, it is important that you seek help from a medical professional.
RELEASING THE EGG
This is the part that scares most people - but rest assured that your yoni egg cannot get stuck inside you!
If you are using a drilled egg, use the string to gently pull out the yoni egg while simultaneously bearing down with your pelvic floor muscles.
If you are using an undrilled egg the easiest way is to get in a squatting position. Bear down with your pelvic floor muscles until the egg releases itself from your yoni, or is low enough that you can retrieve it using your hand.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER USING A YONI EGG?
How you feel after using the egg will vary greatly depending on each person.
Some people may feel intense energy shifts, while others may not feel anything at all. It is important to remember that every body and energy system responds differently, but the crystal is still working it’s magic.
ARE YONI EGGS SAFE?
Yoni eggs are perfectly safe to use and little different to inserting sex toys into the vagina. Infact, suitable crystals (mentioned earlier) may be an even safer alternative since they are natural and free from materials such as rubber and plastic.
It is always recommended that you source your yoni egg from a reputable source. If the price of an egg seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Cheap yoni eggs are unlikely to be made from authentic material and therefore will not have the same beneficial properties for your yoni, and could potentially be harmful.

There are also some occasions where it is not safe to use a yoni egg.
WHEN YOU SHOULDN'T USE A YONI EGG
If you have a vaginal infection e.g. a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis
If you have a urinary tract infection
If you have a sexually transmitted infection/outbreak
During pregnancy (unless agreed by a medical professional)
During your menstrual cycle
